Course Description: UNIX System Administration

Five days — Instructor-led Lecture and Lab Sessions

Overview

This course focuses on the internal structure and operation of the UNIX operating system as it applies to system administration tasks. The course examines those tasks necessary to set up and maintain a multiple-user network, including the startup and shutdown processes and necessary utilities. Discussions on user account maintenance, security, utilities for backup and restoration, automation of system administration activities, kernel configuration, system monitoring, and troubleshooting are all a part of the course work. Interactive demonstrations and lab exercises allow students to apply this information to practical problem solving. While this course emphasizes Solaris, it can be tailored for other UNIX versions as well. This course is intended for UNIX System Administrators or prospective System Administrators.
