Course Description
This two-part course includes the Java programming language and the first half of our Advanced Java Programming course. Features include Java basics, noting differences between the similar languages C and C++, development of stand-alone java programs, Applets, and basic object-oriented programming concepts. Detailed lectures and lab work on language syntax, classes, inheritance, packages, and other basic concepts. Lab work includes writing several functioning Java programs.

In the Advanced Java Programming portion of the class, you will build upon the foundation set forth in the first half by using important classes contained in the Java Foundation Class (JFC) library. You will learn to manipulate data structures, parsing and formatting, perform input/output and create multi-threaded programs. Hands-on lab exercises complement the lectures and ensure that you will be able to apply what you learn to real Java applications.

Audience
This course is designed for programmers needing a comprehensive and practical understanding of the Java programming language including Java basics as well as some advanced topics.

Prerequisites
Experience with a C-style programming language is recommended.
