CGI Programming with PERL

 
 

Course Description
CGI Programming with PERL teaches the Practical Extraction and Report Language (PERL) on a UNIX-based system. The course examines the language syntax including development and use of objects in PERL. (Note: object-oriented programming is not a prequisite for this class). Lab work includes the development of many functioning PERL programs. Topics include:

  • PERL conditional and loop control structures, and function calling mechanisms
  • Object-oriented programming with PERL
  • Pre-defined PERL functions
  • The use of PERL in Common Gateway Interface (CGI) applications
  • Creation of dynamic web pages
  • Forms Processing using all various
  • Development of login/password scripts
  • Session Management Techniques
  • The development of message boards, guest books, shopping carts, and more

Audience
This course is designed for web developers and programmers who need to gain an understanding of the tools required to develop CGI applications.

Prerequisites
Familiarity with HTML and any previous programming language is recommended. Also, previous experience with the UNIX operating system is helpful, though not required.
